When it rains . . . it pours! . . . sighs . .

I received a call from my primary physician’s office today wanting to discuss my lab results. I immediately freaked out since I was just there last Thursday.  They called to tell me that my blood test results show that I am pre-diabetic! Freaking awesome!!! When it rains  . . . it POURS for me lately!. . . .  sighs . .  As I was sitting at my desk at work I slowly started to choke up and cried for a few seconds. Then I remembered I’m still at my desk, so I decided to walk outside to avoid my coworkers seeing me cry. I sat on a bench for a minute and called my doctor’s office to make sure they communicated my blood test results to my GI’s office. My belief is maybe my GI’s office will take my concerns seriously if they heard the blood test results from my doctor and that she agrees that I need to get off the prednisone asap! She believes the long-term steroid use has caused my blood sugars to be high. I’ve been doing this FODMAP diet for 6 weeks now, I don’t see how my diet could be the cause. I expect to hear from my GI’s office by COB tomorrow, if not I will call again. If they are annoyed by me now . . Oh I’m just getting started!! and looking into finding a new GI.

Taking one day at a time . . .

  1. I used to work in a diabetes clinic. If you are on Prednisone and your sugar is elevated, but goes down after you go off the Prednisone – you are NOT pre-diabetic. You are simply having a reaction to the Prednisone, which is very common with that med.

How much longer will you be on it?

Please don’t panic. It was alarmist of your doc to say you are pre-diabetic if you are on Prednisone.

    1. Thank you for this, because panic is exactly what I did and more stress is good for me right now. I don’t know how much longer, I thought I would find out next Wednesday but that appt had to be rescheduled for two weeks from now. I have sent emails asking, no response. Currently looking into finding a new GI

      1. In the meantime, you can use essential oil to help lower your blood sugar number. Mix 5 drops of cinnamon with a teaspoon of coconut oil and put it on the bottom of your feet, then put a pair of socks on for a half hour or so to let it sink in. Cinnamon oil is a natural blood sugar stabilizer.

      2. I would start with the evening after dinner, which is also good because that tends to be when people snack. After eating would be the best times as it would be when your blood sugar starts to rise as your body is producing enzymes to digest food.

  2. That stinks 😦 I have a feeling once you taper off, it’ll reverse. I know when I’m on them, my fasting blood sugar tends to be much higher than usual and does normalize when I discontinue. Reaching doctors can be such a pain in the ass! Doc shopping sounds like a very good idea. If mine was any good, I would share her with you 😉 Sadly, I’m in the same boat.

    1. Hi Kara! yea I’m looking into a GI right now! it’s a shame because he’s very personable, but for the last month I feel he just has too many patients.
